VOLINHA – Volunteering in humanitarian aid (sending organisations) (2017)

The project partners worked together to improve good practices in the management of humanitarian volunteers in the EUAV initiative and in the implementation of volunteering programmes by individual organisations. The project improved standards and procedures in volunteer management, bridged gaps between organisations specialising in humanitarian aid and those specialising in volunteer management, while strengthening links between EU sending organisations, creating common ground for defining humanitarian volunteering and finding ways to manage the multicultural aspect of sending EU volunteers to third countries.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

  • To improve volunteer management procedures in order to meet EU requirements and standards for certification for the purpose of sending EUAVs to third countries;
  • To bridge the gaps between organisations specialised in humanitarian aid and those specialised in volunteer management, while strengthening the links between EU sending organisations and creating a common basis for the definition of volunteering in the field of humanitarian aid;
  • Managing the multicultural aspect of sending EU aid volunteers to third countries through conferences and workshops during the four consortium meetings.

TARGET GROUPS OF THE PROJECT: partner organisations, volunteers

PROJECT PERIOD: 1.9.2015 – 30.8.2017

PROJECT RESULTS:

Each partner organisation has strengthened its volunteer management practices and thus gained the possibility to become EUAV certified. Comparing policies and procedures, identifying where the expertise lies, writing and implementing new procedures based on the guidance received and shared experiences contributed to strengthening the strength of each partner.

As part of the project, Voluntariat became a certified organisation under the EU Aid Volunteers initiative.
