About the program

The Shadowing Program for graduate students interested in the workings of the UN offers you the opportunity to participate in:

  • a one-hour virtual meeting with a UN employee,
  • a virtual guided tour of the Vienna International Centre, and
  • a virtual career workshop.

The programme is organised by the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna in cooperation with UN agencies and organisations based in Vienna. The aim of the programme is to mark UN Day (24 October).

About the United Nations in Vienna

The Vienna International Centre is the fourth headquarters of the UN, alongside New York, Geneva, and Nairobi. Since its opening on August 23, 1979, it has become the headquarters of numerous organizations within the UN system. More than 5,000 people from over 125 countries are employed by 16 international organizations and UN entities in Vienna.

Location and timing of the program

The program will be held virtually between October 24 and November 24, 2025, at the Vienna International Centre or the UN Office in Vienna.

*IMPORTANT:

Selected candidates must be flexible in terms of time during the program, as the exact dates will be determined later depending on the availability of UN staff participating in the program.

Participants will be notified of the selection process in mid-October 2025.
