PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:
- To provide volunteers traveling to the Global South with relevant resources focused on intercultural learning.
- Youth leaders and local partners (small local NGOs or municipalities) are able to support volunteers from different cultures and introduce them to local people.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- The methodology and brochure for volunteers going to Global South countries are up-to-date, tested and translated into Czech and Slovenian.
- To provide youth leaders with resources and materials to support volunteers from different cultures and intercultural learning, thus strengthening this dimension of the workcamps.
- Handbook for youth leadershas been updated with the materials produced.
- Ensure that local partner organisations hosting workcamps know how to support volunteers from different cultures and are able to communicate this to local communities without stereotypes.
- Share existing material on ethical communication on social media for volunteers and workcamp leaders.
TARGET GROUPS OF THE PROJECT:
- Volunteers in the Global South: mostly between 18 and 30 years old. Some with previous volunteering experience, but for most this is their first volunteering experience abroad.
- Leaders of international camps and other international projects in the countries of the participating organisations: often aged between 20 and 30 and with some previous experience of (international) volunteering. They are very willing to work on their own self-development, they are aware that volunteering is a tool to improve soft skills, support local communities, other young people and is a way of active citizenship. They care for the volunteers’ needs, their learning process, leisure and educational activities, conflict management, well-being and partial contact with local people.
PROJECT PERIOD: 01.02.2024 – 31.07.2025 (18 months)
EXPECTED PROJECT RESULT(S):
- Updated methodology and brochure for the preparation and evaluation of volunteers going to the GS in Czech, Slovenian and English.
- Support material for leaders and local organisations on how to support volunteers from different cultures and improve intercultural learning in Czech, Slovenian and English.
- A guide on how to communicate ethically about an international volunteering experience on social media in Czech, Slovenian and English.
- 8 social media handovers carried out by volunteers during their projects.
