Humanitarian Aid Volunteering

Experiences that can change lives!

  • expressing solidarity with victims of humanitarian disasters;
  • showing solidarity with people who need to prepare for potential future disasters.

WHO IS THE VOLUNTARY JOB FOR? young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who are legally residing in an EU member state or in a third country associated with the program (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, and North Macedonia), and who have registered on the European Solidarity Corps portal.

Individual volunteering activities last between 2 and 12 months.

Group volunteering activities last between 2 weeks and 2 months.

WHAT DOES THE VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE OFFER?

Carrying out tasks in support of humanitarian aid activities carried out by the host organisation, learning new skills, experiencing new cultures and ways of life, etc. In addition to disaster preparedness and post-disaster assistance, projects can also cover areas such as: promoting gender equality, protecting women and children, protecting refugees and internally displaced persons, protecting undocumented migrants, mitigating the effects of climate change, improving food security, etc…

HOW DO I APPLY?

Follow these steps on the European Solidarity Corps portal:

  1. open “My Profile”
  2. select “Volunteering Projects in Humanitarian Aid”
  3. select “I want to participate in volunteering projects in humanitarian aid”

Once you have registered on the portal and expressed your interest, you will have access to online courses on the EU Academy platform. You can find them under the “Online Training” tab in your European Solidarity Corps portal account. You need to select the option “Training in Humanitarian Aid”.

The mandatory online training, consisting of online modules on the EU Academy platform and a knowledge test, must be successfully completed in order to apply for available opportunities and participate. Once you pass the final test, the training provider will contact you within two months and inform you about the available dates for the live training. This will be a 5-day in-person course, conducted in groups of about 25 candidates.

Live training is provided three times a year: in February/March, May/June and September/October.

If you have any questions, please contact info@zavod-voluntariat.si.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT HUMANITARIAN AID VOLUNTEERING

The program covers the costs of:

  • travel expenses to and from the place of activity,
  • accommodation and food,
  • supplementary insurance,
  • a small allowance for personal expenses,
  • support services such as language support and training.

Due to the high demand for live humanitarian aid training, access to the availability reporting tool is sometimes limited.

Due to the fact that the number of interested candidates is much higher than the number of volunteering opportunities in humanitarian aid projects, we cannot guarantee that you will be selected for participation in one of these projects after completing the training.

If you have any questions about the training, please contact the European Solidarity Corps team at EACEA-SOLIDARITY-CORPS@ec.europa.eu.
