We are pleased to announce that we have successfully completed the E-TICK – E-t(r)ick Your Mind project, within which we developed innovative tools to support educators, youth workers, volunteers, NGO workers, and anyone who wants to contribute to a more just, inclusive, and connected society.
Key results include:
- Updated online course E-TICK 2.0
- A collection of activities for teachers and other educators interested in global learning
- A collection of activities for volunteer camp leaders who run global learning workshops for volunteers
- Handbook “E-tick Clubs – A Guide for Moderators”, which helps implement supportive activities addressing the platform’s topics and workshops on ethical communication and global learning for teachers, trainers, and camp leaders.
In today’s rapidly changing world, young people have access to a vast amount of information, much of which is false. Due to a lack of understanding and awareness of the broader picture of local and global challenges, young people are an easy target for populist politicians who spread false and misleading information through the media and social networks. As a result, young people are increasingly exposed to fearmongering, the promotion of hate, hate speech, and misleading narratives about measures that are urgently needed both locally and globally.
With the increasing use of social media, young people interact less and less in person. Expressing opinions, agreement, or disagreement is much easier through a few short words or symbols than through a real conversation. That’s why it is even more important to provide young people with a safe space where they have the opportunity and support to form and express their opinions, views, and ideas. In a safe environment, they can learn to express their viewpoints—even when those differ from the majority opinion.
In the age of digital media, responsible and ethical communication is more important than ever. E-TICK 2.0 is a free online course that helps individuals develop critical thinking, understand the impact of communication, and improve their media literacy. The course offers interactive content such as videos, quizzes, and practical exercises that guide you through four key modules.
To increase the reach of the course, we have also prepared accompanying tools that can help educators, organizations, volunteers, and youth workers incorporate the content into their work with young people and other users.
Both sets of activity collections—one for educators and one for volunteer camp leaders—can be used independently, as they include concrete methods that help introduce global learning content into your work. However, if these topics are new to you, we recommend first completing the online course, where you will gain a strong foundation in global learning and ethical communication, and then apply the content of the course to your work using the activity book.
The moderator’s handbook is a very supportive tool for addressing challenging topics, and the E-TICK clubs are an excellent way to increase participant engagement with the E-TICK 2.0 online course. E-TICK Clubs are designed to complement participation in E-TICK 2.0 by providing a space for participants to reflect and discuss E-TICK 2.0 topics with others.
All tools are freely accessible and can be used in your work. We believe they will contribute to even better inclusion and support for individuals and communities.
Thank you to all partners (Društvo Humanitas, Comhlámh, Inex-SDA) and participants who contributed to the successful implementation of the project.
