Opis projekta
The project AVENIR aims at improving disaster risk management by local communities through the action of international and national volunteers. Its ambition is eventually to impact high level policies on youth involvement for resilience in Western Africa. Deployed in 5 countries (Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Togo) by France Volontaires and Zavod Voluntariat, 30 European volunteers along with national ones will contribute to the improvement of reduction of food insecurity, community health, water and sanitation, coastal and fluvial erosion prevention, and eventually volunteers’ management by humanitarian organizations. They will play a part in awareness-raising and capacity-building for local communities and local organizations involved. They will contribute to the implementation of high-impact actions (dredging and mangrove reforestation for example). At the end of the project, it is expected to have raised awareness of 1500 members of local communities in the 5 countries. In addition, the volunteers will not only improve local organizations’ knowledge on disaster risk management but will also develop new partnerships on this field in 5 countries.
A research study to be carried out by the ViCE (Volunteering in Conflicts and Emergencies) initiative with Red Cross Federation will bring to light the added value of joint work of national and international volunteers on humanitarian field.
Dissemination and communication activities will be used to reach various target stakeholders. Project partners and involved volunteers will have the opportunity to share the project results, highlight their experiences, promote EUAV and involve more volunteers along the project thanks to a diversity of communication tools such as articles, a Youtube channel and a phone application. The project will offer the opportunity to a wider audience to get involved through national and European conferences and a main regional event, which will take place in Dakar.
Cilji
- Prepare and implement the deployment of 30 European volunteers in 5 West African countries, in liaison with national volunteers and local organizations that are the final beneficiaries of their actions (OS1)
- Strengthen the capacities of Volunteer Spaces, national voluntary organizations and other humanitarian actors, on the involvement of volunteers (local, national, European) in risk reduction, crisis prevention and adaptation to climate change (OS2)
- Strengthening the resilience of vulnerable populations to food and sanitary crises (SO3) and climate change risks (SO4)
- Evaluate the value added of involving volunteers in these activities, draw recommendations from them and disseminate them to humanitarian organizations and national volunteering policies to ensure their replication (OS5)
