[EVS] What is EVS?

EVS is an EU project founded in 1996 which has hosted more than 100,000 young Europeans. Through EVS, young people get the opportunity to volunteer abroad, contributing with their efforts to a cause they believe in – be it solidarity with refugees and migrants, work on environmental issues, activities for children or the elderly, support for non-governmental organisations, work for cultural events or a number of other topics.

Back to Index

[EVS] Who is eligible to apply?

EVS welcomes people between 17 and 30 years old willing to spend anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 months volunteering abroad.

Back to Index

[EVS] How can I find a project abroad? How can I apply?

EVS is a cooperation between three parts: you as a volunteer, a sending organisation and a hosting organisation. To find a project abroad and to apply you have several options:

  1. Find a sending organisation in the country where you live that will help you find a project that suits your goals and aims; or
  2. Visit the database of the European Youth Portal, find a project that matches your interests and then find a sending organisation that will be the contact point between you and the projects you apply to.

In any of the two situations you need a sending organisation. It is advisable that you find a sending organisation first. If you have difficulties finding a sending organisation, please contact your country’s national agency.

Back to Index

[EVS] What are the costs involved in the application process?

In most cases, depending on your sending organisation, the application process if free of charge. It might happen that your sending organisation charges a small administrative fee that is returned to you after you were successfully accepted in an EVS project. Zavod Voluntariat does not charge any fees during the application process.

Back to Index

[EVS] Which costs are covered for me?

Accommodation, food and health insurance are covered for you. You also receive pocket money for extra expenses. In some cases you might have to pay a small part of your travel costs (in case the lump sum from the project doesn’t cover the full price), but that is the only thing that you might pay.

Back to Index

[EVS] How long should I wait to know if I was accepted to a project?

Once you have found a sending organisation and have applied for a project, the hosting organisation will select someone to take part in their project. Once you are selected the hosting organisation will send the project application to the national agency that decides whether the project will be approved. The whole procedure might take up a few months. There are 3 deadlines for the project application: in February, April and September/October.

Back to Index

[EVS] If I did EVS before, can I do it again?

Unfortunately no, so we really advise you to choose a project carefully to make sure you make the most out of this experience!

The only exception is, if you have done a short term EVS first (2 months) – in this case you can apply for another 10-months long project. So you can spend maximum of 12 months altogether doing the EVS. However, the reverse is not possible – if you have done a 10-month project first, you cannot later apply to a short term EVS.

[Youth exchange] What is a youth exchange?

Youth Exchanges allow groups of young people from different countries to meet and live together for up to 21 days. During a Youth Exchange, participants, supported by group leaders, carry out a work programme designed and prepared by them before the Exchange. Programme usually consists of various activities such as workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, simulations, outdoor activities, etc. Youth Exchanges allow young people to develop competences, become aware of socially relevant topics/thematic areas, discover new cultures, habits and life-styles, mainly through peer-learning and strengthen values like solidarity, democracy, friendship.

Back to Index

[Youth exchange] How can I find a project abroad? How can I apply?

Zavod Voluntariat organises 2-3 youth exchanges every year and the calls for participants are posted on our webpage, Facebook page and in our newsletter. However, Voluntariat is a partner organisation to some other youth exchanges so it is also possible to apply for youth exchanges abroad. They are also posted on our webpage, Facebook page and newsletter. In every post concerning youth exchanges there are stated requirements for participants. These requirements mostly concern age and interest in the topic.

Back to Index

[GLEN] How is GLEN different from other internships?

GLEN programme is a unique programme that sends volunteers to Global South. They are trained before the internship itself and it is obligatory for volunteers to carry out some Global Education activities upon returning from the internship. Hence, the emphasis is not only on internship in Global South itself, but also on pre-departure preparatory training on Global education and activities in your home country after returning from the internship.

Back to Index

[GLEN] How can I apply?

In January, we post  a call for participants for specific internships in Global South (usually to 2-3 countries) on our webpage. The call includes descriptions of internships and what are the requirements and tasks of a potential participant. Potential participants need to send their CV, motivation letter explaining their interest and eligibility to specific internship, and filled-in application form.  In February the participants are selected for an interview according to their CVs and motivation letters and after the interview, the participants are chosen.

Back to Index

[GLEN] What are the requirements for potential participants? What does the selection process look like: criteria, skills, which/whether applications receive priority above others?

Every person that is involved in the development of the local environment and is interested in volunteering, social activities, international and intercultural relations and development topics or Global education can apply for GLEN programme. The participants need to be aged between 21 and 30, have a good command of English or French and they cannot have been previously involved in GLEN programme. Additionally, Voluntariat is looking for participants that are enthusiastic and willing to participate in whole GLEN cycle and carry out activities related to global learning and raise awareness of interconectedness of the world.

Back to Index

[GLEN] Can I apply some other time than January?

No, because the whole GLEN cycle lasts a year and every month has its importance in GLEN cycle. In January there is a call for participants for internships in Global South, in February the participants are selected. From April to June there are 2 intensive trainings held abroad where the participants acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of global learning and prepare for their internship in Global South.  They also get to know their ˝tandem partners˝, since for every internship there are 2 people from different countries selected. Between July and October the actual internship in Global South takes place and upon return the participants are obliged to carry out Global education activities. In March, the whole cycle ends when the former participants and the newly selected participants attend a Renew seminar (“Seminar for Review, Engagement and Networking”), where they exchange their experiences and discuss future activities. For this reason it in not possible to apply other time than January.

Back to Index

[GLEN] Can I apply if I am from or live in a country that is not part of GLEN?

The participants that are eligible for GLEN internship need to be from 9 countries that are involved in GLEN network (the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia). Slovenia is one of them and foreign people need to apply in countries of their origin. However, their country of origin needs to be part of GLEN network; otherwise they are not eligible to participate in GLEN programme.

Back to Index

[GLEN] What are the costs involved in the application process?

Application to GLEN programme doesn’t have any costs. However, potential participants need to take into consideration that GLEN programme doesn’t consist only of a 3-month internship in Global South, but requires active participation in trainings and activities after returning from internship. Therefore potential participants need to be able to actively participate in the whole GLEN cycle that lasts about a year.

Back to Index

[GLEN] Which costs are covered for me?

GLEN programme covers almost all expenses for the participants. They receive a lump sum to cover the cost of visas, vaccinations, travel expenses, accommodation and meals during their internship in Global South. Participants also receive pocket money, but some extra expenses need to be covered by participant themselves. This money is adjusted to each country specifically according to its economic situation and therefore this sum differs in every country. Additionally, costs of accommodation and meals are fully covered during trainings and evaluation meetings. Participants also receive a lump sum to cover their travel expenses to trainings and evaluation meetings.

[Work camps] Who is eligible to participate?

If you want to volunteer in your own country the minimum age requirement is 16 years. It is possible for children to join workcamps as well, but only if accompanied by their parents and only if workcamp conditions are safe for children.

However, to volunteer abroad you must be at least 18 years old. For projects in Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa the minimum age requirement is often 20 years. Besides, for projects in these regions SCI branches and partner organisations often request previous (volunteer) experience and ask all volunteers to join a special preparatory training.

Language requirements depend on where you want to go. Often a basic level of English is enough to join a workcamp. For Latin America however, some skills in Spanish and/ or Portuguese are important.

Back to Index

[Work camps] How do I apply?

If you live in a country where an SCI member organisations exists, you can register and apply for an SCI workcamp through this online placement tool. You must apply through the SCI member organisation in the country where you live at the time of applying, even if you live there only temporarily. If you live in a country where SCI does not have a member organisation, you may apply through an SCI partner organisation.

You must register online on this website in order to create your account. Once you have registered you can log in and complete an application form that will be submitted online to your SCI branch (member organisation). SCI branches may ask you to pay the placement fee before processing your application.

Back to Index

[Work camps] What are the costs involved in the application process?

Depending on where you want to volunteer, there are different fees in the application process that vary between 45 euros up to 115 euros.  An additional fee can apply for projects in Iceland and the global south.

Back to Index

[Work camps] Which costs are covered for me?

Food and accommodation are provided for you. However, you must take care yourself of your travel arrangements (including visa and vaccination, if necessary).

Back to Index

[Work camps] Am I guaranteed a place in the project of my choice once I apply and pay the fee?

The selection processed is based on ‘’first come first served’’ basis, which means that whoever applies first gets the spot first. This is why it is recommended to choose more than one camp in the application process, so we can send you to a different project in case your first choice is already full.

Back to Index

Back to Index

[EVS] Kako najdem projekt v tujini? Kako se prijavim?

EVS predstavlja sodelovanje med tremi partnerji: prostovoljcem, pošiljajočo organizacijo in gostujočo organizacijo. Projekt lahko najdeš na 2 načina:

  1. Poišči pošiljajočo organizacijo v državi prebivanja, ki ti bo pomagala najti projekt, ki ustreza tvojim ciljem in interesom.

V vsakem primeru boš potreboval(a) pošiljajočo organizacijo.

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

[Mladinske izmenjave] Kako najdem projekt v tujini?

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

[Mladinske izmenjave] Kateri stroški so kriti med opravljanjem izmenjave?

Mladinske izmenjave so finančno popolnoma krite, vse kar morajo sodelujoči plačati so potni stroški do kraja opravljanja izmenjave in nazaj v primeru, da pavšal ne zadošča za celotno pot. Nastanitev in hrana sta v celoti krita. Vendar pa sodelujoči ne dobi nobene žepnine.

Back to Index

[Mladinske izmenjave] Kako dolgo trajajo izmenjave?

Mladinske izmenjave trajajo med 5 in 21 dni, vendar jih velika večina traja 7 do 10 dni.

Back to Index

Back to Index

[GLEN] Katerim kriterijem morajo ustrezati potencialni kandidati?

Poleg tega iščemo kandidate, ki jih res zanima celoten GLEN proces in bodo pripravljeni izvajati aktivnosti povezane z globalnim učenjem in ozaveščanjem o medsebojni povezanosti celega sveta.

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Back to Index

Plačano imaš nastanitev in hrano.
